The U.S. has already had 225 school shootings in 2023 with 3 months to go, setting the stage for a record-breaking year of gun violence in schools.

As the US is on track to have its deadliest year yet, the urgency to protect our children from gun violence is stronger than ever – even if it seems small – or like a joke – recognizing and reporting a potential threat of violence can have massive, life-saving impact. We can all do more to learn about the warning signs of violence and take action immediately when we see them.

That is why SHP is launching new public service announcement (PSA) campaign, “Just Joking,” to underscore how important it is to take threats of gun violence seriously. The OOH PSAs features real threats made by school shooters to deliver a sobering message: Threats are not funny. If you see a warning sign of violence, always say something.

At Sandy Hook Promise, we believe gun violence IS preventable when you know the signs. That is why we are bringing our Know the Signs gun violence prevention programs to schools and communities around the country at no cost to educate and empower students, parents and educators.
